There’s too much corruption, waste and destructive subjectivity. Corporate board positions and officer titles were meant to be roles. CEO is a statutory role created for tax purposes–not a job description. The efficiency ratio of pay-to-productivity for senior management and board members has now become ridiculously low.

The problem with “bad apple” directors isn’t that they have a bad attitude, the real problem is that boards of directors exist in the first place. The longest lived companies have replaced nearly all human judgement with risk analysis and market analysis. In other words, statistics–and therefore computers–are much better at running companies than people. In the face of these facts, upper management’s (inclusive of boards) only possible contribution is unintentional corporate sabotage, by mistaken directives and misappropriation of finances on exorbitant payrolls.

The product is inferior and don’t get me started on customer service.

Comment on So You Want to be a CEO — Hone These Traits First by Katrina https://chiefexecutive.net/want-ceo-hone-traits-first/#comment-5933 Fri, 10 Jun 2016 13:37:00 +0000 http://chiefexecutive.net/?p=55377#comment-5933 Excel in all of these areas (recommendations and record to back it up), consistently blocked by protectionism. You see, my achievements, in the eyes of those who would appoint me to a C suite or VP slot, would be admissions of failure on their part and loss of power if rewarded with an equal position. I streamline, improve, monetize, empower, enable and grow the business but those entrenched executives made the mistakes, bad decisions and partnerships that resulted in poor quality products, overruns, and other critical impacts which I am addressing. How do you break through the old boys network of a cozy “came up together” executive suite, outside of soliciting an offer from another corporation? I am a woman, but do not believe gender factors into the equation.

Comment on California: Driving Change by R. California is 50th on your list, but according to you, it “added more private-sector jobs since the recession ended than any other state, at 1.5 million; and remains home to more venture capital, patents, tourism, Fortune 500 companies, agriculture, biotech and manufacturing output than any other state.”

I suppose if you add the seemingly endless recreational and educational opportunities, environmental stewardship, and the world’s best weather (at least here in Orange County), then If all of the above makes California a loser on your list, then count me among the luckiest losers on the planet!

Maybe it is because most people aren’t concerned with one of the U.S. left’s main concerns nowadays, i.e., “protecting” transgender rights.

Comment on 4 Essential Elements in Planning for Disaster by Geary W. Sikich https://chiefexecutive.net/4-essential-elements-in-planning-for-disaster/#comment-5916 Mon, 16 May 2016 15:39:00 +0000 http://chiefexecutive.net/?p=55134#comment-5916 Nice article and a good synopsis of four essentials dealing with disruption. I especially like your comments on business continuity. All too often business continuity is seen as making sure that IT functions are available in the event of disaster. The need to be able to maintain customer tolerance levels and continue to provide goods/services is critical to business survival in a disaster. I would also say that unless the business continuity/disaster management plan is closely aligned to the organizations’ strategy, goals and objectives it will be of little value.

Comment on How Building a CEO Brand Can also Build a Better Company by Kevin Guy https://chiefexecutive.net/building-ceo-brand-can-also-build-better-company/#comment-5903 Tue, 10 May 2016 20:06:00 +0000 http://chiefexecutive.net/?p=54774#comment-5903 Interesting and thought provoking post. I would add “The CEO and her/his leadership team needs an 8 second compel statement. A clear mission – a pulpit piece so a.
everyone is on the same page and, b. generates a company “roar”
For example “Only ABC Company does ____what__ backed up by evidence or proof…” How do you make the competition not relevant?
