Manufacturing continues to grow, with new groundbreakings and expansions being announced monthly over the past year. Hitachi Rail announced in October 2022 a $70 million manufacturing facility and 450 jobs. Greenland Technologies is opening a 54,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Baltimore County, and Home Chef is constructing a new manufacturing and distribution facility that will create500 jobs in Baltimore.

The Maryland Manufacturing 4.0 grant program provides grants to small and mid-sized Maryland manufacturers to invest in Industry 4.0-related technologies, machinery and robotics, and digital business practices in order to remain competitive and drive growth. Reserves 20% of funds for small manufacturers with 3 to 50 employees. Grants cover 75% of project costs for small manufacturers and 50% of project costs for midsized manufacturers. Maximum grant is $500,000 for projects that clearly demonstrate a tie to Industry 4.0, and along-term strategy for Industry 4.0 adoption.
