In late-2022, the Magnolia State finalized the largest economic deal in its history. Steel producer Steel Dynamics inked an agreement to invest $2.5 billion in an expansion in Columbus to add two new facilities and more than 1,000 jobs. This comes on the heels of several notable announcements by companies like Shloop, Homestead Furniture and Menasha Packaging. The aero-space industry continues to grow as well. Rocket Lab announced in September 2022 it would locate an engine testing facility at Stennis Space Center in Hancock County. “When it comes to the aerospace industry, it’s all systems go in Mississippi. That’s because our state offers a prime location for innovative research, well-trained workers, and innovative technology development,” said Gov. Tate Reeves in a press release.
Advantage Jobs Program: Offers a rebate as a percentage of Mississippi payroll to qualified employers for a period of up to 10 years for businesses that promote significant expansion of the economy through job creation.
Sales and Use Tax Exemption for Aerospace Businesses: Offered to aerospace businesses that locate or expand in Mississippi and create at least 25 full-time jobs paying at least 110% of the state or country average annual salary and make an investment of at least $25 million in the state.
Sales and Use Tax Exemption for Data Center Enterprises: To qualify, data centers must invest at least $20 million and create at least 20 new jobs paying 125% of the average state wage.
Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit: Existing manufacturers in Mississippi that have been in business for two or more years and invest $1 million or more in buildings or equipment may be eligible for credits applied to the entity’s state income tax liability.

In July 2023, the Mississippi Development Authority and U.S. Treasury Department announced the State Small Business Credit Initiative, an $86 million expenditure funding four programs supporting Mississippi small businesses and startups. The initiative includes a loan participation program, a loan guarantee program and two equity/venture capital programs.
